Q. What branch of the military did you serve under?
What was your position in the military?
A. I was an Intelligence Operations Specialist
in the Louisiana National Guard.
Q. What is your current position?
A. I'm a Cost Planning Engineer at Shell
International Exploration and Production.
Q. Serving in the military provides great leadership
skills. Beyond that, what skills and experiences did you
learn in the military that enable you to be successful on
the job?
A. Determining what information is important
and “who needs to know what.” This lesson in
particular led me to return to school and earn my degree
in business, which Shell’s education reimbursement
program helped to fund. I started out as a production operator
and now I’ve been promoted to Cost Planning Engineer.
I’ve used the skills I learned in the military to
develop and implement cost management systems to monitor
actual costs and cost forecasts.
Q. Did you use the benefits of the GI Bill to enhance
your education?
A. No, I did not use the GI Bill for my
education. Shell paid for my education through their Education
Reimbursement plan.
